Syngnathiformes are rather odd fish when compared to the common idea of what a fish is. They consist of the seahorses and pipefishes. They have a small toothless mouth at the end of a bony snout. Their bodies are encased in bone like plates instead of scales. They usually have fins, but they are general small. The order includes about six families.
